NEW DELHI – The government appointed Janmejaya Kumar Sinha, Syed Akbaruddin, and Annie George Mathew to the Reserve Bank of India's central board, the central bank said in a release Monday. All three will be part-time, non-official directors and have been appointed for a four-year term, starting Monday.

She has served on the boards of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority and Indian Overseas Bank. He has served as India's permanent representative to the United Nations and also as the Ministry of External Affairs' spokesperson.

Sinha is currently the chairman of Boston Consulting Group's India unit, having been with the consultancy firm since 1998. He has been part of government and RBI-appointed committees in the past. The government had Thursday re-appointed industrialist Anand Gopal Mahindra and former Indian Space Research Organisation chairman Somanath Sreedhara Panicker as part-time, non-official directors to the central bank's board.

The RBI's board consists of the governor and deputy governors of the central bank, along with up to 14 directors nominated by the government from within and outside the RBI. One government official is also nominated on the board, a position that is currently held by Department of Financial Secretary Sanjay Lohiya.  End
