NEW DELHI – The National Statistics Office is conducting a maiden survey to study the contribution of functional cooperative societies to the economy, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation said Monday. The Rapid Survey of Functional Cooperatives will also

estimate gross value added and employment, it said.

"The survey will provide a comprehensive picture of cooperatives' contribution to India's economy," the ministry said. The survey will cover 30 sectors such as credit, dairy, agriculture, and housing, among others, it added. The National Statistics Office is undertaking the pan-India survey for the cooperation ministry, according to a post on X.

The fieldwork for the survey, which began in April, will be completed in September. It will collect data from around 21,000 functional cooperatives across rural and urban parts of the country. The data is being collected through the "e-SIGMA web-based platform for real-time monitoring and improved data quality," the ministry said.  End
