MUMBAI – The well-marked low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh weakened into a low pressure area in the early hours of Friday, the India Meteorological Department said. Most other active weather systems over the country currently lie over east and north-central India, and as such, intense rainfall is expected only over some parts of east and central India in the next few days. The intensity and spread of rainfall is likely to remain subdued in northwest, west, and south peninsular India, the weather department said.

 

The presence of the low-pressure area, along with an upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh, is expected to lead to very heavy rainfall over parts of east Madhya Pradesh till Saturday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday and over Chhattisgarh till Thursday, the bureau said. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in these regions till Tuesday.

 

A cyclonic circulation lies over south Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand, while another lies over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh. These weather systems, along with the low pressure area, are expected to trigger very heavy rainfall over parts of Odisha from Monday to Thursday, the weather department said. Heavy showers are expected to continue over several parts of east India till Thursday, the department said.

 

The proximity of these weather systems is likely to cause heavy rainfall over most parts of northeast India till Thursday, the weather bureau said. 

 

Under the influence of the monsoon trough and an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over north Haryana, heavy rainfall is expected to persist over multiple parts of northwest India till Thursday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms and lighting are seen in parts of Uttarakhand during the same period.

 

Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Monday and Tuesday, over Kerala from Sunday to Tuesday, and over parts of Karnataka on Sunday and Monday, the bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in most parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, while strong surface winds are forecast in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the same period.

 

Light to moderate showers are seen over all parts of west India till Thursday, the weather bureau said.  End
