MUMBAI – Domestic airlines carried 12 million passengers in July, down around 5% from 12.6 million a year ago, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. In Jan-Jul, domestic airlines carried 98.40 million passengers, marginally up from 97.78 million a year ago.
InterGlobe Aviation Ltd.'s IndiGo retained its dominant position, improving its market share to 67.4% in July from 66.3% in June. The airline carried 8.08 million passengers in July, down from 8.92 million in June. Its passenger load factor declined to 82.4% in July from 85.1% in the previous month.
The Air India group's market share improved slightly to 24.0% in July from 23.9% a month earlier. Its passenger load factor declined to 83.2% in July from 85.5% in June. The airline carried 2.88 million passengers during the month, down from 3.22 million passengers carried in June.
SpiceJet's market share declined to 1.6% from 1.9% in June. Its passenger load factor declined to 84.1% from 87.8% in June. The airline carried 187,000 passengers during July, down from 263,000 in the previous month.
Akasa Air's market share fell to 5.5% in July from 6.4% in June, and its passenger load factor declined to 91.9% from 92.2%. The airline carried 665,000 passengers during July, down from 861,000 in June. End
