--SEBI OKs use of digitally signed power of attorney by FPIs for registration
MUMBAI - The Securities and Exchange Board of India Thursday permitted the use of digitally signed power of attorney by foreign portfolio investors at the time of registration, with immediate effect. In a circular on Thursday, SEBI said it was permitting this but the digital signature should be in accordance with the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
This option can be used by FPIs at the time of registration. FPIs typically grant power of attorney to their custodians. FPIs can also continue with the option of providing a physical power of attorney after getting it notarised, apostilled, or consularised.
In its circular, SEBI said this would reduce the overall time taken for onboarding of FPIs. End
