MUMBAI – The depression over Madhya Pradesh weakened into a well-marked low pressure area over the same region in the early hours of Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said. This system is expected to result in very heavy rainfall over some parts of central and east India in the next few days – over east Madhya Pradesh till Friday and over Odisha on Sunday, the weather department said.
The presence of the well-marked low pressure area is expected to keep up the spell of heavy rainfall over parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in the same regions till Monday, the bureau said. In east India, heavy rainfall is forecast over most regions till Wednesday, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely in the same regions till Monday, the bureau said.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam, which is expected to trigger heavy rainfall over several parts of northeast India till Tuesday, the weather department said. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in these regions till Sunday, the department said.
A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan and the adjoining Jammu division, and an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in parts of Uttarakhand during the same period.
The intensity of rainfall over west and south peninsular India is expected to remain subdued, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Monday and Tuesday and over Kerala on Sunday and Monday, the bureau said. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected to persist over several parts of south India till Monday, while strong surface winds are seen over parts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka during the same period.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected to persist over all parts of west India till Wednesday, the bureau said. End
