MUMBAI – State-owned oil marketing companies procured 935 million litres of ethanol in July and blended 1.0 billion litres under the Ethanol Blending Programme, and retained the 20% blending target with petrol during the month, according to the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell. In the 2025-26 ethanol supply year that began in November, oil companies procured 8.10 billion litres of ethanol and blended 8.43 billion litres, maintaining a cumulative blending of 20%.

The government has been blending ethanol with petrol to reduce dependence on crude oil imports, promote green mobility, and support the rural economy. Oil companies have issued orders for the supply of 10.5 billion litres of ethanol in the ethanol year 2025-26.

The government has targeted a cumulative 20% ethanol blending with petrol by the end of October 2026. It is yet to decide on raising the target for the subsequent period.  End
