India's July natural gas imports up 1% on year, first rise since Mar

MUMBAI – India imported 2.92 billion standard cubic metres of liquefied natural gas in July, up more than 1% from 2.87 billion standard cubic metres a year ago, a report released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell showed. The country's natural gas import bill rose to $1.2 billion from $1.1 billion from a year ago. Imports of LNG rose in volume terms for the first time since March after they had been hit by the war in West Asia, which has prevented the transit of energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

 

The total consumption of LNG in India in July fell to 5.74 billion cubic metres from 5.80 billion cubic metres a year ago, the report showed. Production of LNG in the country during the month was down at 2.86 billion cubic metres from 2.97 billion cubic metres a year ago. The country's import dependency in July was 50.8%, up from 49.5% a year ago.

 

Natural gas production in the country exceeded the target of 2.452 billion standard cubic metres for July, according to the report.  End
