--Minda Corp arm gets govt nod to manufacture display module sub-assemblies
NEW DELHI – Minda Corp. Ltd. Tuesday said its wholly owned subsidiary Minda Instruments Ltd. has received government approval to manufacture display module sub-assemblies under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme approved on Monday.
Minda Instruments will set up a greenfield facility for thin film transistor display module assembly as part of its backward integration strategy, as per the exchange filing by the company.
Minda Instruments currently supplies instrument clusters and automotive electronics to major original equipment manufacturers, the exchange filing said, adding that the new facility will allow it to manufacture the display component in-house rather than import it. The facility will also cater to external customers, giving the company access to supply contracts across the broader automotive electronics market, as per the company.
"Import substitution is one part of this story, but the larger purpose is building the depth and precision India needs to design and manufacture the electronics that will define mobility going forward. We see this as an early step in that direction, and one we are committed to leading," Executive Director Aakash Minda said in a statement.
On Monday, the government approved 31 applications involving investments worth INR 78.77 billion in the fifth tranche of approvals under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme. The fifth tranche of approvals takes the total to 106 applications entailing investment of INR 695.48 billion and production worth INR 5.34 trillion under the scheme.
For the June quarter, the company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.06 billion on revenues of INR 18.46 billion. Tuesday, shares of the company closed nearly 3% higher at INR 745.25 on the National Stock Exchange. End
