NEW DELHI – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called for swifter availability of industrial land and infrastructure under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme to attract more investors in India. "Industrial corridors are an important pillar of the government of India's strategy to expand manufacturing, strengthen logistics competitiveness, and create globally competitive industrial ecosystems," she said at a meeting Monday.
The meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust reviewed the progress of projects under the industrial corridor development programme and discussed priorities for the next phase of industrial corridor development, the commerce ministry said in a release.
Chairing the meeting, Sitharaman acknowledged the progress made under the programme and said it indicates growing investor demand. "...The next pipeline of industrial land and infrastructure should be prepared well before the existing inventory is exhausted," she said.
"The focus must now move beyond project approvals towards timely completion of infrastructure, land allotment, investment and commencement of production," the minister said. States should resolve bottlenecks relating to land, connectivity, utilities, statutory clearances, and the powers of project special purpose vehicles, she added.
At the meeting, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasised the need for outcome-oriented implementation of industrial corridor projects, with greater focus on timely investment and operationalisation, the release said. End
