Jindal Poly Films Q1 consol PAT triples YoY despite sharp fall in revenues

MUMBAI – Jindal Poly Films Ltd.'s consolidated net profit for the June quarter nearly tripled on year despite a sharp fall in its revenues. While the packaging film manufacturer's total income plunged, its total expenses fell at a faster pace, leading to a profit.
For Apr-Jun, the company's consolidated net profit was INR 1.08 billion, up from INR 368.68 million reported for the year-ago quarter. Revenue from operations plunged 36% on year to INR 6.96 billion from INR 10.83 billion. Other income fell 4% to INR 1.5 billion and total income tanked 32% to INR 8.46 billion.
The company's total expenses fell 36% on year to INR 7.59 billion, largely on the back of a sharp fall in its cost of materials consumed, which is the top expense item. Cost of materials consumed fell 36% on year to INR 4.36 billion. Further, the company reported negative inventory expenses of INR 12.37 million against expenses worth INR 868 million a year ago.
Friday, shares of Jindal Poly Films closed at INR 636.30 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down over 2% from Thursday. The company had declared its June quarter results after market hours Friday. End
