NEW DELHI – The government has reduced the windfall gains tax on exports of aviation turbine and automobile fuels. The reduced rates came into effect Saturday.

According to a notification issued by the finance ministry late Friday, the windfall gains tax on exports of aviation turbine fuel has been reduced by INR 2.5 per litre to INR 19.5 per litre. While retaining the special additional excise duty on export of diesel at INR 24 per litre, the government brought down the road and infrastructure cess of INR 1.5 per litre to nil. The windfall gains tax on petrol exports has also been brought down to nil.

There is no change in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption, the government said. The tax rates are revised fortnightly based on the average international prices of crude oil, petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel prevailing in the period since the last review.

The government had imposed excise duty on aviation turbine fuel and retail fuel exports from Mar. 27 to curb the outflow of fuel after global fuel supplies were constrained in the wake of the US-Iran war in West Asia.  End
