MUMBAI – Natco Pharma Ltd. reported a sharp decline in consolidated net profit for the June quarter mainly due to a steep fall in revenue from operations. The company's total expenses also declined, but at a slower pace than revenue.
The drugmaker reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.07 billion for the June quarter, down 57% from INR 4.81 billion a year ago. Revenue from operations for the quarter fell 45% on year to INR 7.35 billion from INR 13.29 billion.
Total expenses fell 26% on year to INR 6.09 billion from INR 8.19 billion. Cost of materials consumed declined 13% on year to INR 1.58 billion, while employee benefits expense rose 6% on year to INR 1.79 billion. Finance costs rose sharply to INR 130 million from INR 32 million. Other expenses fell 38% on year to INR 2.22 billion.
The company will pay interim dividend of INR 1.50 per share. The record date for the dividend is Aug. 20.
At 1516 IST, shares of Natco Pharma traded at INR 906.35 apiece on the National Stock Exchange after the June quarter earnings were announced. The stock is down nearly 5% from Thursday.
In terms of segments, the company's revenue from the pharmaceutical business fell 46% on year to INR 6.94 billion, but revenue from agro chemicals grew 18% to INR 408 million. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter stood at INR 2.46 billion, down 61% from INR 6.33 billion a year ago. The EBITDA margin contracted significantly to 30.9% from 45.5% in the year-ago quarter.
On Friday, shares of Natco Pharma ended 5.1% lower at INR 903.15 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
