India Friday rainfall 19% below normal, season-to-date deficit at 13%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 7.1 millimetres of rain on Friday, 19?low the normal of 8.8 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Aug. 14, the country received 498.9 mm of rain, 13?low the normal of 570.7 mm for the period.
Of the country's four homogeneous regions, east and northeast India, northwest India, and central India received "normal" rains on Friday and south India registered "deficient" rainfall.
The east and northeast region received 14?low-normal rainfall at 11 mm Friday, south India received 42% below-normal rains at 3.3 mm, and northwest India recorded 6.5 mm of rainfall, 18?low normal. Central India recorded 8.1 mm of rainfall, 15% below normal. For homogeneous regions and sub-divisions, rainfall between 20?low and 20?ove the long-period average is considered "normal".
Friday, Jharkhand received the highest rainfall at 35.9 mm, followed by Konkan and Goa at 20.9 mm, according to the weather bureau's data. Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 14, "deficient" in nine, "normal" in eight, "large excess" in two, and "excess" in three, according to the data. End
