NMDC posts modest growth in Q1 PAT, sales miss estimate

MUMBAI – NMDC Ltd. reported marginal growth in its net profit and sales for the June quarter as the rise in iron ore segment revenue was partially offset by a decline in revenue from pellet and others segment. The net profit of the company was slightly above the Street estimate, while revenue was below the Street's estimate by a wide margin.
NMDC reported a net profit of INR 20.07 billion for the June quarter, up 2% from INR 19.69 billion year ago. The company was expected to report a net profit of INR 19.56 billion, according to analysts' estimates. The mining company's revenue from operations for the June quarter was INR 67.95 billion, up 2.5% on year from INR 66.34 billion. Analysts saw the company's revenue at INR 79.03 billion.
NMDC's iron ore segment reported revenue of INR 68.02 billion for the June quarter, up nearly 10% on year from INR 61.20 billion. The pellet, other minerals and other products and services segment contributed INR 2.88 billion to the sales of the company in the June quarter, combining revenue from hot rolled coil and sheet segment. The company included the revenue from hot rolled coil and sheet segment into the other segment revenue as it was below a disclosure threshold.
As of Jun. 30, trade receivables from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. for iron ore and pellets supplies was INR 47.12 billion, the company said.
NMDC's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter was INR 28.17 billion, up slightly from INR 27.77 billion a year ago. The EBITDA margin of the company contracted to 41% from 42% a year ago.
The company's iron ore production was 15.12 million tonnes in the June quarter, up 26% on year. The average sales realisation from iron ore was INR 5,548 per tonne in the June quarter, up 4% on year.
Shares of NMDC ended at INR 84.40 apiece on the National Stock Exchange on Friday, down nearly 1% from the closing price on Thursday. The company detialed its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
