--Voltas: Room air conditioner volumes grew 45% on year in Apr-Jun
By Ayush Jaiswal
MUMBAI – Voltas Ltd. Friday reported a significant jump in its net profit for the June quarter on the back of strong revenue growth. The company posted net profit growth after four consecutive quarters of on-year decline in net profit. The company's revenue missed the Street's estimates.
The company's consolidated net profit for the June quarter rose 52% on year to INR 2.14 billion. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit at INR 2.03 billion. Revenue from operations was INR 46.74 billion, up 19% on year. Analysts had estimated the company's revenue from operations at INR 50.58 billion. Other income was up 11% on year at INR 912 million.
The company's total expenses rose 17% on year to INR 44.42 billion. Slightly slower growth in expenses compared to revenue aided the company's net profit growth. Cost of materials consumed, which constitutes 51% of total expenses, was INR 22.71 billion, up 3% on year. Its purchase of stock-in-trade rose 20% on year to INR 13.39 billion.
Voltas' revenue from the unitary cooling products segment rose 33% on year to INR 37.94 billion. This was driven by the room air conditioner business, whose volumes rose 45% on year during the quarter. The company had a secondary market share of 17.3% in room air conditioners in the June quarter. The performance of the unitary cooling products segment was driven by a combination of sustained brand investments, differentiated products, sharper product management, expanding channel reach, strong manufacturing, and supply chain execution.
The company's revenue from electro-mechanical projects and services segment declined 27% on year to INR 6.72 billion. The segment was impacted by the war in West Asia.
Revenue from the engineering products and services segment was INR 1.59 billion, up 18% on year. This was led by the mining and construction equipment division, supported by sustained demand for crushing and screening equipment, continued operations and maintenance contracts and stable performance from Mozambique.
The company's Voltbek brand posted the highest ever quarterly sales in both value and volume terms. This was driven by refreshed product line-ups across premium refrigerators and washing machines, alongside an expanding retail footprint, deeper channel penetration, enhanced in-store visibility and stronger consumer engagement.
"Achieving the landmark milestone of selling 1 million room air conditioners in just 81 days is a clear validation of the trust consumers place in the Voltas brand reinforcing its undisputed leadership in the cooling products market," Mukundan Menon CP, managing director of the company, said in a press release. "Voltbek Appliances maintained its strong growth momentum, reinforcing its appeal among discerning consumers. This combined approach reinforces the company's credential as a full stack consumer appliances organization."
The company detailed its June quarter earnings after market hours. On Friday, shares of the company closed at INR 1,320.50 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up over 2% from Thursday. End
