India's Jul gems, jewellery exports up 0.4% YoY at $2.35 bln; imports tad dn

MUMBAI – The value of India's gross exports of gems and jewellery in July rose 0.4% on year to $2.35 billion, while imports during the month fell marginally to $1.927 billion from $1.928 billion last year, data from the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council showed. Gross exports of gems and jewellery during Apr-Jul were up over 2% on year at $9.17 billion, and imports fell more than 1% to $7.12 billion, according to the data.
India's exports of cut and polished diamonds in July declined more than 18% from the previous year to $876.40 million, while imports of the same commodity rose over 35% on year to $154.13 million. During Apr-Jul, exports of cut and polished diamonds fell nearly 8% on year to nearly $3.60 billion and imports climbed more than 55% on year to $512.74 million.
During the first four months of 2026–27 (Apr-Mar), the country's exports of rough diamonds were at nearly $3.20 billion, down more than 26% from the previous year, the report showed. Gross exports of polished lab-grown diamonds in July slipped over 8% from last year to $112.26 million, while they were up more than 7% on year at $408.50 million in Apr-Jul.
The country's gross exports of gold jewellery rose nearly 9% from the previous year to $1.04 billion, according to the report. Exports of the same during Apr-Jul were at $4.03 billion, up nearly 6% from last year. Exports of silver jewellery in the first four months of FY27 were up more than 72% on year at $508.18 million. Exports of platinum jewellery during Apr-Jul rose more than 17% to $77.82 million. End
