MUMBAI – Indigo Paints Ltd. Thursday reported a significant jump on year in its net profit for the June quarter on the back of strong revenue growth. Sequentially, however, the company's net profit declined.
The company's consolidated net profit rose 61% on year to INR 417.50 million. For the year-ago quarter, Indigo Paints had reported a net profit of INR 259.24 million. Sequentially, the company's net profit declined 28% from INR 577 million.
The consolidated revenue from operations of Indigo Paints was INR 3.70 billion, up 20% on year from INR 3.09 billion. Sequentially, the revenue was down 13% from INR 4.25 billion.
The company's total expenses rose 16% on year to INR 3.24 billion. Slower growth in expenses compared to revenue on an annual basis resulted in a significant jump in the company's net profit. The cost of materials consumed was INR 2.17 billion, up 28% on year. The company's other expenses were unchanged on year at INR 664 million.
The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 620 million, up 40% on year. Its EBITDA margin was 16.8% and net profit margin was 11.0%.
The board of Indigo Paints approved a proposal to explore the potential acquisition of additional 11% equity stake in Apple Chemie India Pvt. Ltd. from the existing shareholders. The company currently holds 51% in Apple Chemie India.
The company's gross margin for the June quarter was 44.6%, which is higher than the paint industry's average of 41.5%, the company said in a presentation. Indigo Paints responded to the spike in raw material costs with timely price increases, securing its margin. "While costs have eased, continued price volatility demands careful market monitoring," the company said.
The company's product categories include putties and cement, emulsions, enamels and wood coatings, and primers, distempers, and others. The company's value across all the above product categories grew in the range of 17-30% for the June quarter. Its volume for these categories grew between 10% and 18%.
The company's active dealer count for the quarter rose to 19,382 from 18,556 in the year-ago quarter. It expects its subsidiary Apple Chemie's gross margin to improve in the September quarter and normalise by the December quarter.
Indigo Paints announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. Thursday, its shares closed at INR 1,130.40 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.7% from Wednesday. End
