MUMBAI – LG Electronics India Ltd. Thursday reported higher-than-expected net profit for the June quarter despite an increase in total expenses. The company's revenue from operations increased sharply on the back of volume- and value-led growth. The company's net profit and revenues comfortably beat the Street's estimates.
The company reported a net profit of INR 6.53 billion, up over 27% from INR 5.13 billion for the year-ago quarter. This is 6% higher than the net profit of INR 6.17 billion estimated by analysts. The company's revenue from operations rose over 15% to INR 72.33 billion from INR 62.63 billion reported for the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected the revenues to be INR 71.56 billion.
The company's total income for the June quarter rose over 16% on year to INR 73.28 billion. The other income grew over 27% on year to INR 947 million. The company's total expenses increased over 14% on year to INR 64.50 billion. The cost of materials consumed, which accounts for 70% of the total expenses of LG Electronics, rose over 15% on year to INR 45.37 billion. Purchases of stock-in-trade rose over 22% on year to INR 6.78 billion.
The company's home appliances and air solution segment's revenues were INR 55.77 billion, up nearly 14% on year, and contributed 77% to the total revenue from operations for the June quarter. The revenues from the home entertainment segment grew over 22% on year to INR 16.57 billion.
The June quarter earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation of LG Electronics rose 26% on year to INR 9.04 billion. The EBITDA margin expanded by 106 basis points to 12.5% from 11.4% in the year-ago quarter. This growth in EBITDA and EBITDA margin was driven by high-margin product sales, premium mix of products, and strong demand in the home entertainment segment.
The company aims to boost demand across segments by strengthening its product mix, ramping up exports, and scaling up business-to-business sales. The company also aims to improve its margin through improved operational efficiencies, calibrated price hikes, and localisation of products amidst the macroeconomic headwinds due to the war in West Asia.
"India's consumer durables market is undergoing a structural shift towards premium, technology-led & energy-efficient products and this quarter demonstrates that our portfolio is built for precisely that shift," Hong Ju-Jeon, managing director, said. "We will continue to drive premiumisation, scale our B2B (business-to-business) and export businesses, and strengthen India's role as a manufacturing and export hub for LG."
Thursday, shares of LG Electronics India ended at INR 1,578.30 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, largely unchanged from Wednesday. The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
