MUMBAI – Indraprastha Gas Ltd. Thursday reported a sharp fall in its net profit for the June quarter due to a significant rise in natural gas buy cost and excise duty. The company reported strong growth in its revenue from operations.
The company reported a net profit of INR 1.86 billion for the June quarter, down nearly 48% from INR 3.56 billion a year ago. However, the net profit missed analysts' consensus estimate of INR 2.61 billion. The company's revenues from operations rose over 16% on year to INR 50.40 billion. The estimate for the top line was INR 44.43 billion. Total income rose over 16% to INR 51.43 billion and other income rose 14% to INR 1.03 billion.
The company's total expenses for the June quarter rose nearly 24% on year to INR 48.83 billion. The purchases of stock-in-trade of natural gas, which accounted for 78% of the total expenses, grew 30% on year to INR 38.11 billion. Excise duty paid increased 11% to INR 4.57 billion, and depreciation and amortisation expenses rose 10% to INR 1.36 billion.
The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter fell a sharp 42% on year to INR 2.96 billion. The EBITDA margin contracted to 6% from 13% in the year-ago quarter.
The company reported net revenue from operations excluding excise duty of INR 45.83 billion, up over 17% on year. This represents the highest quarterly revenue reported by the company in the last 13 quarters.
The company total sales volume rose 6% on year to 878.98 million standard cubic metres from 830.87 million standard cubic metres reported in the year-ago quarter. Sales of compressed natural gas rose 6% on year to 656.82 million standard cubic metres, and revenue from the segment increased 12% on year to INR 32.35 billion.
The piped natural gas segment contributed 4% to the total volume and 32% to the revenue for the June quarter. Total PNG volumes rose 4% on year to 221.85 million standard cubic metres and revenue from the segment increased about 32% to INR 13.34 billion. Within PNG, domestic volumes grew 7% on year to 71.93 million standard cubic metres, whereas industrial and commercial PNG volumes rose 4% to 104.42 million standard cubic metres.
AT 1357 IST, shares of Indraprastha Gas reported a high of INR 153.78 apiece on the National Stock Exchange after the June quarter earnings were announced. The stock then gave up some gains and closed at INR 151.77, down 1.8% from Wednesday. End
