MUMBAI – CESC Ltd. Thursday reported modest on-year growth in its net profit and revenue from operations for the June quarter. The growth in the company's revenue from operations was higher than the increase in its total expenses. However, the company missed analysts' estimate for net profit for the June quarter.

 

The electrical utility company reported a consolidated net profit of INR 4.02 billion for the June quarter, up 3% from INR 3.90 billion reported in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected a net profit of INR 4.39 billion. Sequentially, the net profit declined over 8%. 

 

The company's revenue from operations rose more than 5% to INR 54.85 billion from INR 52.02 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected the company's revenue from operations at INR 54.75 billion. Sequentially, the revenue from operations was up 34%.

 

CESC's total expenses in the June quarter rose 4% on year to INR 51.93 billion, driven by a rise in the cost of energy purchased and employee benefits expenses. The company's cost of energy purchased rose 7% on year to INR 25.65 billion, employee benefits expense rose over 13% to INR 4.07 billion, and other expenses grew 7% to INR 6.56 billion. 

 

The company has declared interim dividend of INR 6 per share. The record date for the payment of dividend is Aug. 19.

 

CESC Ltd. detailed its June quarter earnings during market hours. At 1321, shares of the company were trading at INR 163.90 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up slightly.

 

CESC reported regulatory income of INR 1.80 billion for the June quarter, down 23% from INR 2.33 billion in the same quarter last year.

 

The company reported INR 11.49 billion in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter, down 3% from INR 11.80 billion in the year-ago quarter.  End
