MUMBAI – Godrej Industries Ltd. Thursday reported a sharp fall in net profit for the June quarter due to a decline in other income and rise in expenses. Apart from the cost of property development, all the other constituents in the expenses table of the company have risen.
Godrej Industries reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.84 billion for the June quarter, down more than 18% on year from INR 3.49 billion. This is the largest on-year decline in the company's net profit in the past 10 quarters.
The company's consolidated revenue from operations for the June quarter was INR 54.48 billion, up 22% from INR 44.60 billion. The revenue has been growing on year continuously over the past eight quarters.
Godrej Industries Apr-Jun consolidated operating margin for the June quarter was 10.55%, up from 8.90% in the year-ago quarter.
The company's revenue from chemical segment for the June quarter was INR 11.61 billion, up 31% from INR 8.83 billion in the year-ago quarter. The animal nutrition segment contributed INR 13.02 billion to the sales, up 13% on year from INR 11.56 billion. The company's estate and property development sales for the June quarter was INR 13.3 billion, down 18% from INR 16.2 billion in the year-ago quarter.
Godrej Industries' sales from other segments such as vegetable oils, finance and investments, dairy, crop care, and hospitality, all rose year-on-year. Meanwhile, only the dairy segment of the company reported a net loss of INR 1.90 million for the June quarter. All other segments were profitable for the company.
Godrej Industries reported a profit before depreciation, interest, and tax of INR 16.10 billion for the June quarter, down 8% from INR 17.48 billion in the year-ago quarter.
At 1425 IST, shares of the company traded at INR 1,257.80 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up nearly 2% from closing price Wednesday. The company detailed its June quarter earnings during market hours. End
