MUMBAI – IPCA Laboratories Ltd. Thursday reported a significant jump in its net profit for the June quarter on the back of strong revenue growth and robust expansion in margins. The company's net profit beat analysts' expectations by 30%. The growth in revenue from operations was the fastest in the last eight quarters.
IPCA Lab's consolidated net profit rose 72% to INR 4.02 billion from INR 2.33 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had estimated the company's net profit at INR 3.10 billion. The company's consolidated revenue from operations was INR 27.88 billion, up 21% on year from INR 23.09 billion. Analysts had estimated the company's revenue from operations at INR 25.61 billion. The revenue growth was driven by broad-based growth across all segments.
The company's total expenses rose 11% on year to INR 22.41 billion. Slower growth in expenses compared to revenue also resulted in a significant jump in the company's net profit. Its other expenses rose 9% on year to INR 7.20 billion. Cost of material consumed was 6.38 billion, up 3% on year, and employee benefit expense rose 11% to INR 6.02 billion.
IPCA Lab's sales from India rose over 13% on year to INR 12.29 billion, while its revenue from outside India rose 27% on year to INR 15.59 billion. The company's sales from its formulation business were at INR 16.85 billion, up 19% on year. Its sales from the active pharmaceutical ingredients business rose 30% on year to INR 4.24 billion.
The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 6.38 billion, up 50% on year. The EBITDA margin increased to 22.88% from 18.39% in the year-ago quarter.
The company detailed its June quarter earnings during market hours. Shares of the company were up over 5% at INR 1,864.6 apiece on the National Stock Exchange at 1333 IST, before the company announced its results. The shares hit a high of INR 1,905 after the results were announced. At 1415 IST, shares of the company were at INR 1,812.90 apiece on the NSE, up 2.6%. End
