HYDERABAD – Healthy growth in the hospitals business, along with the pharmacy and diagnostics segments, boosted Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd.'s earnings in the June quarter.
The Chennai-headquartered healthcare services company Wednesday reported a consolidated net profit of INR 5.81 billion, up over 34% on year. This was also higher than the Street's expectation of INR 5.58 billion. The company's revenue grew nearly 21% on year to INR 70.44 billion, well above analysts' consensus estimate of INR 68.94 billion. The revenue growth is the highest in 13 quarters. Sequentially, the company's net profit was up nearly 10% and the revenue was up 6.6%.
Apollo Hospitals reported a year-on-year growth of nearly 22% in its healthcare services business, which is the hospitals segment, to INR 36.20 billion.
Improved occupancy and traction in new hospitals helped the company to report healthy numbers for the quarter under review. Robust volume growth in specialties and high complex clinical works also boosted the revenues from the hospitals business, the company said in a press release. The company also witnessed 26% year-on-year growth in its revenue from international patients. For the June quarter, Apollo Hospitals reported occupancy at 70% against 65% a year ago.
Apollo Hospitals runs a network of hospitals across regions with an operating bed capacity of 8,352 as on Jun. 30. It plans to add 5,800 new beds in the next five years as part of its expansion drive, Apollo Hospitals said in a press release.
The company's subsidiary Apollo HealthCo Ltd., which holds pharmacy and digital health platform Apollo 24/7, registered 20.4% year-on-year growth in its June quarter revenue at INR 29.77 billion. The diagnostics and retail health services arm Apollo Health & Lifestyle Ltd. reported 14.8% year-on-year growth in revenues at INR 5 billion.
The company's June quarter earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were at INR 10.92 billion against INR 8.52 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected the company's EBITDA to be INR 10.4 billion. While the hospitals business EBITDA was INR 8.62 billion against INR 7.18 billion a year ago, the Apollo HealthCo EBITDA was at INR 1.71 billion against INR 940 million.
The total expenses of Apollo Hospitals for the June quarter were up nearly 19% on year at INR 63.1 billion. The other expenses were up almost 27% at INR 15.6 billion. The employee benefits expense for the quarter increased almost 12% on year to nearly INR 8 billion. Finance cost for the quarter was up 11% at INR 1.2 billion. Tax expenses for the quarter rose nearly 33% to INR 1.9 billion.
Wednesday, Apollo Hospitals shares ended at INR 8,597 on the National Stock Exchange, down 1.8% from Tuesday. End
