NEW DELHI – GMR Airports Ltd. swung to profit in the June quarter compared with a loss in the year-ago period. Both revenue from operations and total expenses grew substantially and at a similar pace for the three months. However, a slight increase in other income and a low rise in tax outgo lent much-needed support to the bottom line.

The airport operator's consolidated net profit for the June quarter came in at INR 910 million as opposed to a loss of INR 2.12 billion in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue from operations grew nearly 24% on year to INR 39.64 billion. The three months ended Jun. 30 marked the 19th consecutive quarter of year-on-year top line growth for the company.

Other income for GMR Airports grew over 4% on year to INR 1.21 billion in the reporting quarter while its total expenses increased over 23% on year to INR 25.17 billion.

The company's consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the reporting quarter rose nearly 23% on year to INR 15.68 billion, but the margin contracted 100 basis points on year to 50%. The consolidated operating profit margin of the company contracted 39 bps on year to 39.55% for the quarter.

GMR Airports' consolidated net debt grew 3% on year to INR 340 billion.

The company said its board approved an enabling resolution to raise up to INR 50 billion through issuance of securities on a qualified institutional placement basis or any other method. The board also approved an enabling resolution for issuance of rupee-denominated non-convertible bonds worth upto INR 15 billion in one or more tranches or series on private placement basis for re-financing of existing non-convertible bonds of the company.

Market participants will react to GMR Airports' June-quarter earnings on Thursday as the company detailed its results after market hours. Wednesday, shares of the company closed at INR 104.55 on the National Stock Exchange, 0.5% lower than Tuesday.  End
