MUMBAI – Petronet LNG Ltd. Wednesday reported a sharp rise in its net profit for the June quarter despite a significant decline in its revenue from operations. Revenue from operations posted its sharpest year-on-year decline in almost 42 quarters. Net profit for the quarter was well above Street estimates, while revenue was significantly below estimates. 

 

The company's standalone net profit for the June quarter rose 33% to INR 11.33 billion. However, sequentially, the bottom line declined 15%. Analysts' estimate for the bottom line was INR 8.80 billion. The company's revenue from operations was INR 55.54 billion, down 53% on year. Analysts had estimated the company's revenue from operations at INR 94.45 billion.

 

Petronet LNG's total income declined 52% on year to INR 57.89 billion. 

 

The company's total expenses declined 61% on year to INR 42.74 billion for the June quarter. The company's biggest expense, cost of materials consumed, fell over 64% on year to INR 37.00 billion. Other expenses rose 18% on year to INR 1.55 billion. 

 

Wednesday, shares of Petronet LNG closed at INR 279.85 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1% from the previous close.  The company announced its June quarter earnings after market hours. End
