MUMBAI – Abbott India Ltd. Wednesday reported a strong jump in its net profit for the June quarter on the back of modest growth in revenue from operations with its expense remaining unchanged. However, it is the slowest growth in the company's revenue from operations in the last 21 quarters.

 

The company's standalone net profit for the June quarter rose 17% on year to INR 4.29 billion from INR 3.66 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company's revenue from operations was INR 18.14 billion, up 4% on year from INR 17.38 billion in the year-ago quarter.

 

Abbott's total expenses remain unchanged at INR 13.17 billion for the June quarter from INR 13.18 billion in the year-ago quarter. The company's largest expense, purchase of stock-in-trade, fell 7% on year to INR 8.12 billion. Employee benefit expense was up 4% on year to INR 1.75 billion. Cost of materials consumed, and other expenses rose 3% and 1%, respectively.

 

The company's board has approved the appointment of Sudarshan Jain as chairman with effect from Aug. 13. This came after Munir Shaikh resigned from the position of chairman with effect from Aug. 12.

 

The company detailed its June quarter earnings after market hours. Wednesday, shares of the company closed at INR 28,140 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, up 0.4%.  End
