MUMBAI – VIP Industries Ltd.'s net loss widened in the June quarter despite marginal on-year revenue growth. Revenue growth was more than offset by a rise in total expenses due to higher cost of materials consumed and increased purchases of stock-in-trade.
The company reported a consolidated net loss of INR 535.6 million for the June quarter, up from INR 131 million it had reported a year ago. Analysts had expected the company to report a net loss of INR 397.17 million.
The luggage and travel accessories maker's consolidated revenue from operations rose 3% on year to INR 5.78 billion in the June quarter. Analysts had estimated revenue at INR 5.46 billion for the quarter. Revenue grew year-on-year after declining for seven consecutive quarters, the company said.
VIP Industries' total expenses for the June quarter rose 9% on year to INR 6.37 billion. The company's cost of materials consumed, which accounted for 35% of total expenses, rose 9% on year to INR 2.23 billion. Purchase of stock-in-trade grew 35% on year to INR 816.5 million, while employee benefit expenses rose 17% on year to INR 635.70 million. Other expenses for the June quarter rose 8% on year to INR 1.87 billion.
The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation came in at a negative INR 70 million.
"Over the past few months, we have focused on stabilising the ship and strengthening each of our brands – VIP, Skybags, Aristocrat, Alfa and Caprese," Atul Jain, managing director and chief executive officer of the company, said.
Wednesday, shares of VIP Industries ended at INR 310.25 on the National Stock Exchange, down 2.1% from the previous closing price. End
