HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI – Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd. is expecting a significant rise in revenues from its battery chemicals business from 2027-28 (Apr-Mar), as demand from this segment is gradually increasing, the company said in its June quarter conference call with analysts.
Gujarat Fluoro makes fluorochemicals, fluoropolymers and crucial intermediate materials and chemical components for lithium-ion and sodium-ion electric vehicle batteries, covering roughly 35% of a battery's value chain. The battery chemicals business is under its subsidiary GFCL EV Products Ltd.
While it is expecting traction in the battery chemicals business from FY27 end onwards, the revenue is expected to see a significant jump from FY28 onwards, the company said. The company is focusing more on products that are aligned to sunrise sectors and expecting huge demand for products in the battery chemicals business segment going forward.
Gujarat Fluoro reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.21 billion for the June quarter, up 21.4% year-on-year and more than twofold sequentially. The profit growth was the highest in three quarters and exceeded analysts' estimate of INR 1.75 billion. Revenue rose nearly 24% year-on-year and 16% sequentially to INR 15.88 billion, marking the company's highest year-on-year revenue growth in seven quarters.
Gujarat Fluoro's management said its $216 million proposed battery technology project in Oman was kept on hold for now. The company is planning to shift the project to India owing to multiple reasons, including geopolitical issues that had mainly caused delays in moving ahead with the project, it said. The planned capacity was being shifted to India to meet customer commitments for these products. The funding arrangement made with the Oman Investment Authority was also cancelled, according to the company. However, funding issues were not the reason for shifting the project to India, the management added.
The company has funding plans in place for the shifted project, and the current environment in India was much better for increasing investments, the management said.
Gujarat Fluoro said it was witnessing continued demand across the product segments in which it operates. Improvement in product mix was helping the company drive revenue growth across segments, mainly in the fluorochemicals business.
Gujarat Fluoro is adding capacity in its fluorochemicals business for R32 chemical gas, which is used in cooling and air-conditioning applications, in Jul-Sept. The company expects to fully utilise the additional capacity in FY27 itself, as demand for products in this segment remains high.
Gujarat Fluoro reported a revenue of INR 15.74 billion from its chemicals business segment in the June quarter, up 23% on year. The company's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation margin was at 27%, unchanged on year, while EBITDA for the quarter was at INR 4.28 billion against INR 3.44 billion a year ago.
Gujarat Fluoro said it had taken a marginal price hike in the June quarter for some of its products to mitigate input costs, and the actual impact of the hike would reflect in subsequent quarters.
Gujarat Fluoro retained its capital expenditure guidance for FY27 at INR 8 billion for its chemicals business, while spending on the battery chemicals and parts segment remained at INR 23 billion.
The company's fluoropolymers business is expected to grow 17-20% annually going forward, the management said.
On Wednesday, Gujarat Fluorochemicals shares closed 3.4% highr at INR 4,565.80 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. End
