MUMBAI – Lenskart Solutions Ltd. Wednesday posted a nearly fourfold jump on year in net profit for the June quarter driven by sharp growth in revenues and margins. The revenue growth came on the back of sustained momentum in India same-store sales growth and volume growth, the company said.
Lenskart reported a consolidated net profit of INR 2.22 billion for the June quarter, up nearly four times from INR 600.80 million in the year-ago quarter. The bottom line for Apr-Jun was sharply above the Street estimate of 1.73 billion. Sequentially, the net profit increased 11% from INR 2 billion.
The eyewear company's consolidated revenue from operations increased 43% on year to INR 27.14 billion. The top line for the quarter under review was higher than the estimated INR 26.5 billion. Sequentially, the revenues rose 8% from INR 25.16 billion.
Lenskart's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation were INR 5.89 billion for the June quarter, up 61% on year. The EBITDA margin expanded significantly to 21.7% from 18%.
Total expenses increased 35% on year to INR 24.84 billion. The company's cost of materials consumed increased 23% to INR 6.31 billion, employee benefit expenses rose 29% to INR 5.99 billion, and purchases of stock-in-trade rose 68% to INR 1.69 billion. The company's other expenses jumped 47% to INR 7.19 billion and depreciation and amortisation expenses rose 28% to INR 3.05 billion.
In its letter to shareholders, the company said it sources a meaningful share of its frames from China and the depreciation of the rupee against the yuan puts direct pressure on its cost of goods. Despite this, the product margin has remained resilient in both India and the international market, absorbing the currency impact through growing premiumisation and in-house manufacturing.
Lenskart's revenues from the India business grew 31% on year to INR 15.31 billion, with net profit of INR 1.83 billion, up 54%. Revenues from international business grew 38% to INR 12.03 billion, with net profit of INR 1.04 billion, up six times.
The company reported India same-store sales growth of 18% on year, driven by strong performance across metro, tier 1, and tier 2 markets. Same-PIN-code sales growth was 24% in the June quarter. The average selling price in India increased 6.4% to INR 1,856, on the back of premiumisation of mix. However, the average selling price overseas was broadly flat on year at INR 5,267, with constant-currency average selling price lower on a seasonally heavier sunglasses mix, the company said. Marketing expenses as a share of revenues fell to 4.8% from 5.8% in the year-ago quarter. Lenskart Gold active members reached 9.35 million, with Gold subscription fees of INR 660 million, up 57%.
On a consolidated business, the company's product margin improved to 70.3% in the June quarter from 68.7% a year ago. During the June quarter, Lenskart sold 10.53 million eyewear units, up 26%, and posted a 40% rise in eye tests to 7.12 million. The company added 132 new stores in Apr-Jun, taking the number of active stores to 3,459.
Wednesday, Lenskart Solutions shares ended at INR 586.45 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.5% from Tuesday. The company detailed its June quarter results after market hours. End
