MUMBAI – There is a need for aggressive marketing and new products for retail investors to increase trading activity, particularly in bullion, at Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, Naveen Mathur, director of commodities, currency, and international business at Anand Rathi Investment Services, said.

"... GIFT is not new, but it has not picked up the way it should have been for the industry. With the objective of bringing the offshore to the onshore, it has all the benefits. You have the currency benefits, you have the taxation benefits, everything. I think the industry needs to evolve towards aggressive marketing and the roadshows to enable people to at least understand what GIFT is all about," Mathur said at a panel discussion at the Global Commodity Conclave 2026 here.

Ashok Kumar Gautam, managing director and chief executive officer of the India International Bullion Exchange, which functions under GIFT City, said the exchange is trying to promote regional delivery hubs. Gautam said there is also the possibility of deliveries in Singapore and Dubai.

"... we want to have linkages with at least two centres, that is Dubai and Singapore, where if somebody wants the payouts in the physical form of gold, we are getting into an arrangement and it will be out soon when we go to the regulator with that, that the delivery will be possible in Singapore as well as in Dubai," he said, adding that because of the West Asia, they have started getting inquiries from traders who want to move their gold and capital into the vaults.

Pradeep Ramakrishnan of International Financial Services Centres Authority said he expects more bullion importers to start trading and hedging through the GIFT City in the coming years.  End
