MUMBAI - Sun TV Network Ltd. is expected to report a slight decline in its net profit for the June quarter due to a fall in its advertising revenue. Growing subscription demand and inflows due to the Indian Premier League are projected to provide some relief to the company, according to brokerages tracking the company.
The company is expected to report a standalone net profit of INR 5.05 billion for the June quarter, down 4% from INR 5.29 billion in the year-ago quarter, according to the average of estimates from five brokerages. On a sequential basis, the net profit is expected to rise 74% from INR 2.90 billion. The highest estimate for the company's net profit is INR 5.82 billion from JM Financial Institutional Securities Pvt. Ltd. and the lowest is
INR 4.35 billion from Kotak Securities Ltd.
The company's net sales for the June quarter are expected to be INR 13.18 billion, up nearly 5% on year from INR 12.57 billion, according to the estimates. The net sales are expected to rise 55% on quarter from INR 8.48 billion. The highest estimate for revenue is INR 14.24 billion from JM Financial and the lowest is INR 12.5 billion from Elara Securities (India) Pvt. Ltd.
The company's June quarter net profit will fall largely due to weak advertising growth, with fast moving consumer goods companies pulling back their advertisement spends after the war in West Asia, Kotak Securities Ltd. said.
Sun TV Network's operating revenue is expected to grow 10% on year, while its subscription revenue is likely to grow 3% on year. Kotak Securities said. This growth stems from the delayed start of the 19th edition of the IPL compared to the previous year, they added. This will led to an increase in broadcast revenues due to the increased number of IPL games in the June quarter compared to the year-ago quarter, Elara Securities said.
Sun TV's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter are expected at INR 6.15 billion, down from INR 6.17 billion reported in the year-ago quarter, according to the average of four estimates. The highest estimate for the EBITDA is INR 7.12 billion from JM
Financial and the lowest is INR 5.19 billion from Kotak Securities. The EBITDA margin is expected to go down due to higher operating costs and weak advertisement demand, according to the brokerages.
Sun TV Network will release its June quarter earnings Wednesday. Tuesday, shares of the company ended at INR 483.70 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.8% from Monday. The stock is broadly flat since May 21 when the company reported its March quarter earnings.
Of the five research reports on the company available with Informist, four have a "buy" recommendation on the stock with an average target price of INR 705 per share, which is nearly 46% higher than the current market price. One brokerage has a 'hold' recommendation with a target price of INR 580.
