India Tue rainfall 20% below normal, deficit so far this season at 12% - IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 6.6 millimetres of rainfall Tuesday, 20% below the normal of 8.3 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Aug. 11, the country received 478.4 millimetres of rain, 12% below the normal of 543.9 millimetres for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two regions – central India and south India – registered "deficient" rains Tuesday. Meanwhile, east and northeast India registered "large deficient" rains and northwest India received "excess" rainfall.
East and northeast India received 4.1 millimetres of rainfall, 65% below normal. South India received 44% below-normal rainfall at 3.6 millimetres and central India recorded 7.6 millimetres of rainfall, 22% below normal. Northwest India recorded 44% above-normal rains at 8.8 millimetres Tuesday.
On Tuesday, west Madhya Pradesh received the highest rainfall at 24.4 millimetres, followed by Uttarakhand at 20.6 millimetres. Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 13 subdivisions, "deficient" in nine, "large excess" in six, "excess" in two, and "normal" in six, according to the data. End
