NEW DELHI – The government's net direct tax collections rose 23.1% on year to INR 8.113 trillion during Apr. 1-Aug. 10, buoyed by a 22.3% increase in non-corporate tax collections, data released by the finance ministry Tuesday showed. Net direct tax collections so far account for 30.1% of the target of INR 26.97 trillion set in the Budget for the financial year 2026-27 (Apr-Mar).

Non-corporate tax includes taxes paid by individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, firms, associations of persons, bodies of individuals, local authorities, and artificial juridical persons.

On a gross basis, the government collected INR 9.548 trillion as of Monday, up 19.8% on year. The robust jump in net tax collections is also owing to the government's refunds moderating to INR 1.435 trillion during the period, up just 3.8% on year.

Corporate tax collections also rose at a healthy pace, up 19.8% to INR 2.705 trillion. The Budget had projected corporate tax collections to grow 11% to INR 12.31 trillion in FY27.

The government has collected securities transaction tax worth INR 338.24 billion as of Monday, up 51.3% on year, likely due to the increase in the securities transaction tax on futures transactions to 0.05% from 0.02% in the Budget for FY27.

The government has projected total tax collections in FY27 at INR 44.04 trillion, up 9.4% on year. Of this, it aims to collect INR 26.97 trillion as direct taxes, up 18.1% from FY26. The government aims to collect INR 737 billion from securities transaction tax in FY27.  End
