MUMBAI – Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. reported strong growth in net profit for the June quarter as revenue increased faster than total expenses. The company's net profit was above analysts' expectations, while revenue missed expectations by a wide margin.
Kalpataru's net profit for the June quarter rose 32% on year to INR 2.65 billion. Analysts had expected the bottom line to be INR 2.21 billion. The company's net profit rose 21% sequentially.
Revenue from operations increased nearly 9% on year to INR 54.82 billion. Sequentially, revenue declined 21%. The top line was well below analysts' expectations of INR 59.11 billion. Other income more than doubled on year to INR 524 million in the June quarter from INR 234 million.
The company's total expenses for the June quarter rose 8% on year to INR 51.73 billion, but were down 20% sequentially. Erection, sub-contracting, and other project expenses of the company grew 11% on year to INR 24.13 billion and was the top contributor to the company's total expenses. The company's employee benefits expense for the quarter rose 21% on year to INR 5.19 billion.
The company's finance costs for the quarter declined 19% on year to INR 677 million. Cost of materials consumed by the company during the quarter fell 2% on year to INR 17.00 billion.
Kalpataru's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter were at INR 4.88 billion, up 14% on year. The company's EBITDA margin was at 8.9%, up 40 basis points on year.
The company's order book stood at INR 666.07 billion as of Jun. 30 and the total order inflows for the June quarter were INR 7.7 billion. The company expects strong growth in power transmission and distribution, buildings and factories, and oil and gas infrastructure segments in the near term. The company's net debt for the June quarter was INR 7.5 billion, down 61% from INR 19.4 billion a year ago.
Kalpataru will spend INR 1.5 billion to set up a rolling mill at its Raipur plant. Tuesday, the company's shares ended at INR 1,347.70 on the National Stock Exchange, up 2.5% from the previous close. The company detailed its June quarter earnings during market hours. End
