F&O loss per retail trader INR 116,654 FY26 vs INR 113,913 FY25, govt says

MUMBAI – The net loss incurred by individual traders in equity derivatives in the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) was INR 916.85 billion, down from INR 1.12 trillion in FY25. This data comes from an analysis by the Securities and Exchange Board of India of participation and profitability outcomes of individual investors in the equity derivatives segment of the stock exchanges. Data summarising the SEBI analysis was presented in the Rajya Sabha Tuesday by Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary.
The average loss per individual trader in the segment increased slightly to INR 116,654 in FY26 from INR 113,913 in FY25. The number of individual equity derivatives traders declined to 7.86 million from 9.81 million. Their aggregate turnover in the segment decreased to INR 202 trillion from INR 213 trillion.
SEBI's analysis was based on client information collected from the top 15 equity derivatives brokers. The total turnover was considered to be notional turnover for futures and premium turnover for options. End
