--BSE to replace Wipro in Nifty 50 index from Sept 30

MUMBAI – BSE Ltd. will replace Wipro Ltd. in the Nifty 50 index with effect from Sept. 30, NSE Indices, a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Stock Exchange of India Ltd., said in a press release Monday. Wipro will get included in the Nifty Next 50 index with effect from the same day it gets out of the Nifty 50 index.

Apart from Wipro, Hitachi Energy India Ltd., Polycab India, Vedanta Aluminium Metal Ltd., and Vodafone Idea Ltd. will get included in the Nifty Next 50 index, replacing Indian Hotels Co. Ltd., Lodha Developers Ltd., REC Ltd., Shree Cement Ltd., and United Spirits Ltd. with effect from Sept. 30, the index company said.

BSE's shares are listed on the NSE. The index company said it is including BSE in the Nifty 50 index "as the 6-month average free-float market capitalisation of the company within eligible universe is at least 1.5 times the 6-month average free-float market capitalization of the smallest constituents i.e. Wipro Ltd." As per NSE Indices' review, BSE's six-month average free-float market cap was INR 1.41 trillion while Wipro's was INR 559.30 billion.

The index company said the next two stocks eligible for inclusion in the Nifty 50 index were TVS Motor Co. Ltd. and Divi's Laboratories Ltd. But they did not qualify because their respective free-float market cap did not exceed that of the next two Nifty 50 companies with the lowest market cap, HDFC Life Insurance Co. Ltd., and Tata Consumer Products Ltd., by more than 1.5 times. TVS Motor and Divi's Laboratories will, however, continue to be in the Nifty Next 50 index.

Only stocks that are available for trading in NSE's equity derivatives segment are eligible for inclusion in the Nifty 50 index, NSE Indices said.

Apart from the Nifty 50 and Nifty Next 50 indices, NSE Indices announced a rejig of 17 other broad-based Nifty indices. All these changes will take effect from Sept. 30. There will also be a change in the composition of 22 sectoral Nifty indices, 26 thematic Nifty indices, and two strategy Nifty indices, all taking effect from Sept. 30.  End
