MUMBAI – Bosch Ltd. reported its strongest year-on-year revenue growth in 13 quarters in the June quarter, driven by higher demand for passenger cars and in the off-highway segment. Its profit, however, declined year-on-year due to a high base.
The company reported a profit of INR 7.02 billion, down 37% on year but up 23% on quarter. This was the first on-year decline in the company's net profit in the last five quarters. Analysts had projected Bosch to report a net profit between INR 5.33 billion and INR 6.21 billion for the June quarter.
Bosch's revenue from operations surged 22% on year and 5% quarter to INR 58.42 billion. It was higher than analysts' estimates, which ranged between INR 53.15 billion and INR 56.86 billion.
"Our business performance in the first quarter is driven by sustained demand across segments, particularly in passenger cars and commercial vehicles, along with increased sales in key product categories," its Managing Director Guruprasad Mudlapur said in a press release.

Bosch earns most of its revenues from the sale of automotive products, and a small chunk from consumer goods. Revenue from the automotive products business in the June quarter was INR 52.34 billion, up 23% on year. The company earned INR 5.21 billion from its consumer goods business, up 21% on year.
Overall product sales of the automotive segment grew almost 26% on year in the reporting quarter, while the power solutions business improved 29%.
Bosch's two-wheeler business grew a touch over 41% in the June quarter, driven by growth in value-added engine management system products, increased sales to premium motorcycle platforms, and steady demand from major domestic automakers, the company said in a press release.
Its power solutions business outperformed market growth, with good growth across all segments, including passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and tractors.
Strategic price positioning and rollout for new schemes of key product categories such as lubricants and spark plugs helped its mobility aftermarket business grow almost 10% in the reporting quarter. Net sales of its beyond mobility business grew nearly 13% on year, driven by demand for core products in the power tools segment.
Bosch's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter was INR 8.18 billion, up 28% on year. The company attributed this gain to revenue growth and expense optimisation.
Bosch's profit was also dragged down by overall expenses, which increased slightly faster than its total income. The company's total expenses increased 21% on year to INR 51.29 billion during the quarter, compared with a 20% increase in total income to INR 60.67 billion. The bulk of the increase in expenditure was driven by purchases of stock-in-trade, which grew 34% on year to INR 25.30 billion and cost of materials consumed, which increased 38% to INR 15.46 billion.
The automotive industry registered production volume of 2.46 million units for the June quarter, compared to 2.07 million units a year ago. The company expects this to grow to 2.47 million units in the ongoing September quarter.
Monday, the company's shares ended 1.3% higher at INR 43,505 on the National Stock Exchange. Bosch announced its financials for the June quarter after market hours. End
