NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated in July rose 6% on year to 139.79 million, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. At 6%, the on-year growth in e-way bill generation was the slowest since Novemeber 2022.
Sequentially, e-way bill generation rose 2.2% last month, reflecting the pick-up in activity. In June, e-way bills generated had risen 14.5% on year to 136.78 million.
An e-way bill is a GST document for the transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
An increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions will be reflected in the next month's collections. India's GST collections grew 15.4% on year to INR 2.112 trillion in July. End
