India Mon rainfall 30% below normal, season-to-date deficit at 12%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 6.1 millimetres of rainfall Monday, 30?low the normal of 8.7 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Aug. 10, the country received 472.6 millimetres of rain, 12?low the normal of 535.6 millimetres for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two--east and north-east India and north-west India--registered "deficient" rains Monday. Meanwhile, central India registered "normal" rains and south India received "large deficient" rainfall.
East and north-east India received 5.8 millimetres of rainfall, 44?low normal. South India received 66?low-normal rainfall at 2.5 millimetres and north-west India recorded 3.5 millimetres of rainfall, 48?low normal. Central India recorded 3?ove-normal rains at 10.8 millimetres Monday.
Monday, east Madhya Pradesh received the highest rainfall at 25.7 millimetres, followed by Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Uttarakhand receiving 15.9 millimetres and 15.7 millimetres rainfall, respectively.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 16 subdivisions, "deficient" in 13, "large excess" in two, "excess" in three, and "normal" in two, according to the data. End
