MUMBAI – Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter rose slightly as strong growth in net revenue from operations was offset by a similar rise in expenses.
The company reported a net profit of INR 2.03 billion, up 5% on year from INR 1.94 billion. The net profit of the company missed the Street estimate of INR 2.11 billion.
Amara Raja's net revenue from operations for the June quarter was up 21% on year at INR 40.41 billion from INR 33.50 billion it had reported in the year-ago quarter. The net revenue of the company was above the Street estimate of INR 38.05 billion for the quarter.
The company's total expenses were up 22% on year at INR 37.85 billion from INR 31.03 billion it had reported in the year-ago quarter. The rise in total expenses was led by expense for cost of materials consumed, which rose 29% on year to INR 21.89 billion and other expenses grew 29% on year to INR 5.20 billion.
The battery maker's changes in inventories of finished goods, work-in-progress, and stock-in-trade was INR 2.15 billion for the June quarter, up from INR 700,000 it had reported in the year-ago quarter.
Amara Raja's revenue for the June quarter was aided by a growth in both the segments. The lead acid battery segment grew 22% on year to INR 40.05 billion and the new energy business segment grew 73% on year to INR 2.09 billion.
Shares of Amara Raja fell to a low of INR 901.4, down 3.2?ter it detailed its June quarter earnings Monday. The stock was down 0.2?rlier. At 1350 IST, shares of the company traded at INR 906 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, down nearly 3% from its closing price Friday.
The company's consolidated earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the June quarter was INR 4.06 billion, up 11.7% from INR 3.64 billion a year ago. The EBITDA margin was down 106 basis points on year at 9.6%. Amara Raja's standalone EBITDA for the June quarter was INR 4.07 billion and its standalone EBITDA margin was 10.1%.
"The automotive domestic business revenue grew over 20% year-on-year on the back of healthy OEM (original equipment manufacturing) demand and double-digit growth in the aftermarket," Harshavardhana Gourineni, executive director of the company's automotive and industrial segment, said. "Home energy grew over 30% year-on-year, supported by a strong summer season, while the industrial battery business sustained momentum with UPS segment recording double digit revenue growth. Our international business continued to face headwinds from geopolitical uncertainty and shifting global trade dynamics, and we are actively recalibrating our market and channel mix to build a more resilient export franchise."
