NEW DELHI – India recorded 7.3 millimetres of rain Saturday, 16% below the normal of 8.7 millimetres, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Aug. 8, the country received 459.2 millimetres of rain, 11% below the normal of 518.3 millimetres for the period.

Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, central India received "deficient" rains Saturday, while the other three regions received "normal" rains, data showed. Central India recorded a 24% below-normal rains at 8.9 millimetres, with Marathwada, Vidarbha, and west Madhya Pradesh receiving deficient shortfall. 

East and northeast India received 7.7 millimetres of rains, 15% below normal. South India received 7% below-normal rainfall at 5.6 millimetres, and northwest India recorded 6.4 millimetres of rainfall, 7% below normal.

Saturday, Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh received the highest rainfall at 32.4 millimetres, followed by coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Odisha receiving rainfall in the range of 20.5 millimetres-25.1 millimetres, IMD data showed

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "deficient" in 15, "large deficient" in seven, "large excess" in three, "excess" in five, and "normal" in six, according to the data.  End
