NEW DELHI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy-to-very heavy rainfall over most of northwest India, particularly over east Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, in the coming days due to the presence of a western disturbance. While "heavy" rainfall is expected over these areas during the weekend, it is forecast to temporarily intensify to "very heavy" rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, and then later subside to "heavy" rains till Friday.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, IMD sees "heavy" rainfall till Friday, with rainfall intensifying to "very heavy" on Sunday and Monday. Other northwest India states, such as Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, are expected to receive "heavy" rainfall during the weekend or through Monday.

In central India, IMD has forecast "very heavy" rainfall over Chhattisgarh during the weekend and west Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, "heavy" rainfall is expected to continue over Madhya Pradesh through Monday and Chhattisgarh through Friday. In northeast India, "very heavy" rainfall is likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Thursday and Friday.

Kerala has been receiving extremely heavy rainfall over the past few days. According to IMD, the rainfall has subsided and the state and adjoining parts of Karnataka are likely to receive heavy-to-very heavy showers for the next two days.

Till Friday, IMD does not expect extremely heavy rainfall over the country and has not forecast "very heavy" rainfall over east and west India in the coming days. Gujarat and Maharashtra are in west India, while east India covers Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal.  End
