Oil India Q1 Profit After Tax tripled on higher crude oil realisations

MUMBAI – Oil India Ltd.'s net profit for the June quarter more than tripled on year, aided by growth in crude oil production and higher crude oil realisations. The on-year revenue growth of the company for the June quarter was the highest in 16 quarters while the on-year profit growth was the highest in seven quarters.

 

The upstream oil company reported a net profit of INR 28.70 billion for the June quarter, up more than three-and-a-half times from INR 8.13 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected the profit at INR 22.13 billion. 

 

The company's net revenue from operations for the June quarter was INR 79.58 billion, up 59% from INR 50.12 billion in the year-ago quarter. Analysts estimated the company's net revenue at INR 76.88 billion. 

 

Oil India's revenue from crude oil for the June quarter was INR 61.21 billion, up 85% from INR 33.12 billion in the year-ago quarter. The revenue from natural gas was INR 15.27 billion, up 4% from INR 14.69 billion a year ago.

 

Oil India's total expenses for the June quarter rose 16% on year to INR 47.37 billion. However, the total expenses were down 6% sequentially.

 

The company's operating margin for the June quarter was 43.58%, up from 21.44% in the year-ago quarter. The oil driller's crude oil output from matured oilfields was 950,000 tonnes, up from 853,000 tonnes in the June quarter last year.

 

Oil India's major expense in the June quarter was for other statutory levies, at INR 20.62 billion, and accounted for 43% of the total expenses. Other expenses of the company fell nearly 49% for the June quarter to INR 5.83 billion.

 

The maharatna public-sector enterprise's net profit for the June quarter was supported by 11% growth in crude oil production and higher crude oil price realisation at $98.73 per barrel. The average consensus estimate from brokerages had expected the realisations to be $96.6 per barrel. 

 

Friday, shares of Oil India ended at INR 442.80 apiece on the National Stock Exchange, marginally down from Thursday's close. Oil India reported its June quarter earnings after market hours.  End
