MUMBAI/HYDERABAD – Backed by a robust order book and better execution, Hitachi Energy India Ltd. has reported better-than-expected earnings for the June quarter. The company's revenue for the quarter grew at its highest pace in 25 quarters. Its orders for the quarter, excluding high voltage direct current, surged 26% on year, driven by strong demand.     

 

The company Friday reported a rise of nearly 124% on year in its net profit to INR 2.94 billion, slightly above analysts' estimates of INR 2.91 billion. The company's top line for the reporting quarter gained nearly 69% on year to INR 24.94 billion. This was higher than the Street's estimate of INR 22.70 billion. However, sequentially, net profit and revenue fell nearly 11% and 10%, respectively. 

 

The grid technology company's orders for the June quarter were at INR 50.97 billion, up over 26% on year. These figures exclude the high voltage direct current orders it received, Hitachi Energy said in a press release. Hitachi Energy's exports for the reporting quarter accounted for nearly 34% of total orders.

 

Hitachi Energy's total income for the reporting quarter rose nearly 67% on year to INR 25.51 billion. Of this the other income rose over 13% on year to INR 577 million. The total expenses of the company rose nearly 60% on year to INR 21.62 billion. The cost of raw materials more than doubled on year to INR 16.14 billion. The other expenses were up nearly 23% on year at INR 4.27 billion. Employee benefits expenses were at INR 1.62 billion, up nearly 12% on year.

 

The Bengaluru-based company's operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation for the quarter more than doubled on year to INR 4 billion. The operating EBITDA margin was 16% against 11.5% in the corresponding quarter a year ago. The company said its ever order backlog of INR 322.22 billion was the highest ever.

 

Hitachi Energy said the current financial year offers opportunities in artificial intelligence data centres, smart grids and battery energy storage systems, and electric vehicle infrastructure operations. "With the new target of 900 GW (gigawatts) of non-fossil fuel installed capacity by FY36, opportunities in the renewable energy segment will grow manifold," it said.

 

The company reported its June quarter earnings after market hours Friday. Its shares ended at INR 32,600 on the National Stock Exchange, up over 2%.  End
