MUMBAI/NEW DELHI – Hitachi Energy India Ltd. Friday said the company sees "a lot" of revenue potential in the battery energy storage systems business, having secured its first order only in the June quarter, which is yet to execute. Battery energy storage systems is one of a handful of emerging growth opportunities the company says it is well positioned in, including renewable integration, data centres, and grid modernisation.

In the June quarter, the company bagged its first battery energy storage project of 165 megawatts in Andhra Pradesh's Hebbatam. To start with, Hitachi Energy will focus its energy on the domestic markets when it comes to battery energy storage systems.

"We have a strong and robust requirement (in India)... right now our focus is to supply for the domestic market," a top company official told analysts during a post-earnings analyst call. "We have to first ensure that this technology is deployed, and then we will scale it up slowly. But the pipeline is robust," the official said.

The margin profile of this segment, with the product being a modular and scalable version, is not as high because the business need to mature, the company said. "The key is that this is a scalable version, where it is easy to fit, and there is a lot of revenue potential," the official said.

The company bagged a "flagship" order of 2 gigawatts for wind power evacuation in Europe in the June quarter. Exports contribute around 25% to its top line currently, the company said.

Hitachi Energy has a presence across multiple segments currently, including transmission, industries, data centres, railway and metro, and renewables. In the June quarter, all segments reported a growth, barring transmission, and railway and metro.

The company said the contraction in the transmission business was temporary. It also expects railway and metro business to pickup in the second half of 2026-27 (Apr-Mar).

Going forward, the company is confident the long-term structural drivers are in place to create significant and sustainable growth opportunities. "Our strong order backlog, combined with a healthy bidding pipeline, provides good visibility for future revenue growth," the company said.

For the June quarter, Hitachi Energy reported a net profit of INR 2.94 billion on revenues of INR 24.94 billion. It disclosed financials for the reporting quarter after market hours. Friday, its shares closed 2.2% higher at INR 32,600 on the National Stock Exchange.  End
