Apr-Jul freight traffic at major Indian ports up 6.8% on year

AHMEDABAD – Freight traffic handled by major Indian ports rose 6.8% on year to 312.95 million tonnes in Apr-Jul, data released by the Indian Ports Association showed. The increase was led by other cargo, which increased 22.6% on year to 43.74 million tonnes during the period.

 

Crude oil and petroleum products rose 4.0% on year to 91.33 million tonnes during Apr-Jul. The volume of liquids other than crude and petroleum products declined 11.5% on year to 10.05 million tonnes

 

Thermal coal rose 4.9% on year to 46.05 million tonnes, while coking coal increased 7.4% on year to 23.33 million tonnes during the period. Iron ore volume rose 8.1% to 18.29 million tonnes.

 

Among the ports, Deendayal Port of Kandla handled the highest traffic at 58.82 million tonnes, followed by Paradip Port at 52.66 million tonnes, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority at 36.62 million tonnes.
