MUMBAI – Star Cement Ltd. reported a sharp fall in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter due to an increase in cost of materials consumed, higher power and fuel expenses, and an increase in outward carriage expense on finished goods. The company's bottom line missed analysts' expectations, but its top line was in line with expectations.

 

Star Cement's consolidated net profit for the June quarter fell 24% on year to INR 747 million from INR 984 million reported for the year-ago quarter. Analysts expected the bottom line to be INR 830 million. The bottom line fell 50% on quarter.

 

The company's consolidated revenue from operations for the June quarter came in at INR 9.43 billion, up more than 3% on year, and was largely in line with the analysts' expectations of INR 9.35 billion. Sequentially, the company's top line was down 20%. The company's other income rose to INR 82 million from INR 17.93 million. Total income rose 4% to INR 9.5 billion.

 

Total expenses for the quarter under review rose 10% on year to INR 8.5 billion. Power and fuel expenses rose 7% on year to INR 1.5 billion. The carriage outward expense on finished goods rose 8% on year to INR 1.7 billion and the cost of materials consumed grew 21% to INR 1.32 billion. The company's finance costs for the June quarter rose 35% to INR 137 million and other expenses grew 15% to INR 1.26 billion.

 

Star Cement reappointed Sajjan Bhajanka as chairman and managing director for three years effective Apr. 1, 2027. Friday, shares of the company closed at INR 201.96 on the National Stock Exchange, down 0.7% from Thursday. The company detailed its June quarter earnings during market hours.  End
