Equity Alert: Indices extend losses; IT cos off highs, ICICI Bk down over 1%
MUMBAI--1125 IST--Domestic benchmark indices declined further as index heavyweight ICICI Bank extended losses and peer HDFC Bank slipped into the red. Information technology stocks also came off their highs, weighing on the Nifty 50 index. More than half of the Nifty 50 constituents were trading lower.
At 1107 IST, the Nifty 50 was at 24565.60, down 70.40 points or 0.3%. The BSE Sensex was at 78520.99, down 433.77 points or 0.6%. Earlier, indices were down 0.1-0.3%. India VIX, the fear gauge of the equity market, was nearly 3% higher at 12.4925 points.
The broader market remained mixed. All small-cap indices traded marginally lower, while mid-cap indices traded marginally higher. The Nifty Financial Services index was the worst-performing sectoral index, down nearly 1%. Meanwhile, the Nifty IT eased from its highs but remained up more than 1%.
Bajaj Finance remained the biggest drag on the Nifty 50, down over 4%. Bajaj Finserv fell nearly 4%, while Trent declined 2.5%. Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv were also the top losers in the Nifty 200 index. In the Nifty 500 index, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals was the biggest loser, falling over 6%. The stock declined after the company's consolidated net profit and sales for the June quarter missed the Street's expectations.
EIH was the second-biggest loser in the Nifty 500 index, down almost 5%. Shares of the company fell despite its consolidated net profit for the quarter rising more than threefold on year.
IT stocks, among the biggest gainers in the 50-stock index, came off their highs. Tata Consultancy Services was the top gainer, up over 2%, while HCL Technologies and Tech Mahindra gained nearly 1?ch. Equity Alert: Mrs Bectors Food shares up 2% ahead of June quarter earnings
MUMBAI--1100 IST--Shares of Mrs. Bectors Food Specialities Ltd. were trading around 2% higher at INR 214.25 apiece ahead of its June quarter earnings, due later in the day. The company is expected to report a sharp increase in its net profit for the June quarter on a yearly as well as sequential basis.
Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd. expects the company to report a consolidated net profit of INR 383 million, while Anand Rathi Share and Stock Brokers Ltd. expects a net profit of INR 355 million for the June quarter.
The company's consolidated net sales are expected to rise sharply on year and sequentially. Anand Rathi expects the net sales to increase 13% on year to INR 5.32 billion and Motilal Oswal estimates a 12% on-year rise in net sales to INR 5.30 billion. Mrs. Bectors Food had reported a net profit of INR 309 million on revenues of INR 4.73 billion for the year-ago quarter.
The company's revenue growth will be driven by the domestic biscuit business and double-digit growth in exports, Motilal Oswal said. The company's exports are expected to grow in the range of 11% to 12%, led by Africa and Latin America. The bakery business is expected to continue its outperformance with 15% growth, while the quick service restaurant segment is likely to grow around 5%, the brokerage added.
The fast-moving consumer goods industry witnessed stable demand in the June quarter, aided by a reduction in goods and services tax, easing food inflation, improving urban demand, and an extended summer season, Anand Rathi said. A sharp increase in prices of crude oil and its derivatives, and crude palm oil due to the war in West Asia has impacted some exports to the region and drove price hikes by most companies across their portfolio, the brokerage said.
Most of the FMCG companies are expected to see healthy volume-led double-digit revenue growth, supported by premiumisation, price hikes, and faster growth in modern trade and quick commerce. The margins are expected to remain under pressure due to higher input costs. El Nino and consequent impact on the rural income is expected to drag consumption, Anand Rathi said.
Motilal Oswal expects the company to report earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation of INR 673 million. The EBITDA margin is likely to expand by 40 basis points on year to 12.7%.
All the five brokerage reports on the company available with Informist have a "buy" recommendation on the stock with an average target price of INR 237 per share. The target price is nearly 11% higher than the current market price. (Devanshu Singla)

MUMBAI--0945 IST--Domestic equity markets started the week's last trading session on a negative note, opening marginally lower, after closing higher for the past two sessions. Higher crude oil prices, now at $83 a barrel, dampened sentiment.

Equity Alert: Indices seen in range amid higher oil price, Trump's comments
MUMBAI--0850 IST--Domestic equity indices are likely to move in a range Friday as well, indicated by the movement of the GIFT Nifty. Analysts expect the Nifty 50 index to edge up further in the near term as long as it stays above the 24600-point level. Crude oil prices resumed their climb to $83 a barrel despite US President Donald Trump's comment that the Iran war is likely to end "pretty soon". Investors have now shifted their prime focus to the new closing auction mechanism for the equity cash segment as the sharp divergence between the closing levels of the Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex continued.
At the end of the continuous session at 1515 IST Thursday, the Nifty 50 was at 24627.95 points, slightly up from Wednesday, while the BSE Sensex was at 78785.62 points, up 0.3%. After the closing auction session, the Nifty 50 ended at 24636, up 11.35 points from Wednesday's close. This was over eight points higher than the 1515 IST level. The Sensex, on the expiry day of its weekly derivatives contract, ended at 78954.76, up 373.76 points or 0.5%. The August futures contract of the 30-stock index ended at a premium of 205 points at 1530 IST to the Sensex's close.
At 0851 IST, the August futures contract of the GIFT Nifty was largely flat from its previous close at 24651. This was 15 points higher than the Nifty 50's previous close. "The Nifty (50) index traded in a narrow range of just 75 points throughout the session and settled at 24636 (spot), well within the resistance zone of 24600–24700," Vipin Kumar assistant vice president of research at Globe Capital Market, said. "Going forward, a decisive break above 24700 could push it towards 24850 and higher levels in the near term. Conversely, 24400 will continue to act as a strong support level, while a break below it could drag the index down to 24150–24050."
Titan Co. and Hindalco Industries will also be tracked as they will announce their June quarter results later in the day. Titan is expected to report a 25% on year rise in its net profit for the June quarter to nearly INR 13 billion, while its revenue is expected to rise nearly 38% to nearly INR 201 billion. Robust growth in domestic jewellery sales, along with healthy sales of watches, eyewear, and other products, is likely to help Titan's earnings growth. Hindalco's consolidated net profit for the quarter is seen at INR 58.17 billion, while its revenues are expected at INR 889.70 billion.
