MUMBAI – Vikram Solar Ltd. reported a sharp fall in its net profit as expenses rose more than revenue from operations. The company's net profit was below analysts' estimates unlike revenue, which remained in line with the projections.
The company reported a net profit of INR 187.27 million for the June quarter, down 86% from INR 1.34 billion it had reported in the year-ago quarter. Analysts saw the company's net profit between INR 484 million and INR 1.48 billion.
Vikram Solar's revenue from operations for the June quarter was INR 15.36 billion, up 35% from INR 11.35 billion it had reported in the year-ago quarter. Analysts had expected the company's net revenue between INR 14.66 billion and INR 18.99 billion.
The solar company's total expenses grew 59% to INR 15.24 billion, outpacing the growth in revenue, and hence, dragging down the profit. The cost of materials and services consumed by the company rose 61% to INR 13.62 billion and accounted for the company's 89% of total expenses.
The company approved capital expenditure of INR 55.89 billion to increase the capacity of Tamil Nadu unit to 9 gigawatt hour.
